Information

The World and All That It Holds is a multilingual, polyphonic and thrilling epic about love and exile. Based on Aleksandar Hemon’s novel Bejturan and the Rose, the performance follows one of the most beautiful love stories in contemporary literature – that of two recruits from Sarajevo, Raphael Pinto and Osman Karišik who meet on the front during World War 1 and fall in love with each other. The story takes us through decades, cities and deserts of the world, from Sarajevo, through Galicia, Tashkent and the Takla Makan Desert, to Shanghai and Hong Kong.

Going through war, hunger, exile, illness, birth and death, The World and All That It Holds confronts us with questions about what love can endure, in what forms it can appear and whether it is a sufficient driving force to keep us alive even in the most extreme circumstances.
