The theatre production Scars uses a distinctly contemporary dramatic approach to explore the phenomenon of violence among young people, examining its roots, mechanisms, manifestations and the tragic consequences of violent relationships.
Although the theme of violence has recently been addressed frequently in the dramatic work of young authors, Scars, produced by the Bileća Youth Theatre, shapes these experiences in a new and profoundly evocative way. The play reflects on the most significant experiences of young people who have suffered violence or, on the other hand, who have been perpetrators themselves.
This production speaks more through atmosphere, stage movement, metaphorical reflection, elliptical acting, music, and emotional expression than through text and language as the primary means of dramatic communication. Even though the dramatic text itself is reduced, the piece displays a clear dramaturgical composition, structured in five scenes. Each scene is the result of research by young actors from Bileća and is based both on newspaper articles and on literary works (Children by Ivo Andrić, Who Is It? by Selma Parisi, and Six by Jelena Tasić).
