Information

Based on the novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley

Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein served as the inspiration for the eponymous performance, whose aim is to explore various practices of discrimination in our contemporary society. The main topic of our performance is the question of who and what is, what can be, and who can become a “monster,” and above all, the question of who judges and defines the Other as monstrous.

Drawing on different theoretical and literary frameworks, from Franz Kafka to Paul B. Preciado and others, we dealt with the issue of giving a voice to those who are otherwise not allowed to speak in the public sphere. If the “monster” were to speak, what would it tell us? In what ways, and for what reasons, do we as human beings label one another as wrong, unacceptable, and frightening?

In terms of theatrical expression, the language of the performance ranges from puppetry practices — as a fundamental principle of theatrically animating inanimate bodies (objects) — to the musical form of a rap concert performance, as a kind of socially engaged musical response to the political phenomena of our everyday life.
