The legend of the seventh son is popular in many cultures. It is associated with the belief that the seventh son in a family possesses special powers, and he is often referred to as the “luck child.”

Our Luck Child, whether a boy or a girl, is based on precisely this myth. The story goes like this:

In a distant kingdom, word spread that the “seventh child of a seventh child” would become the future king. Alarmed, the King ordered his servants to find the child immediately and throw him into the water – but fate, or rather luck, had other plans. The boy was saved by a circus Monkey, who took him along. Years and years passed. The boy grew into a young man, and then, one day, the King came to the circus…

In the performance, we explore the idea of happiness and luck, trying to discover what it really means and where it can be found. We often ask ourselves: What do we need in order to be happy? To be a king and have a kingdom? To live in a circus? Or something else?

The message of the performance is that happiness lives within us and in who we are. We simply need to feel it and share it with others, because the more we believe in happiness, the happier we become.

The original Australian version, The Luck Child, was created for the Sydney Theatre Company by co-author and performer David Collins, a member of the world-renowned comedy duo The Umbilical Brothers. It immediately became a hit with children and parents. David Collins brings all his magic of mime, pantomime, physical comedy, slapstick and sound imitation to 45 minutes of hilarious theatrical play – his first performance created specifically for children.

In the first year after its premiere (2012), The Luck Child was named the best production for children in Sydney, with a recommendation that every child should see it if we want them to fall in love with theatre from an early age.

Following Australia, Sweden and Italy, The Luck Child, starring Amanda Prenkaj, now has its Croatian version.
